"The Echoes They Left Behind"

This Label was for the breweries first barrel aged project to be bottled. The name is in reference to the Danvers State Hospital cemetery, the entrance of which is marked by a large boulder which is inscribed with “The echoes they left behind”. The brew involved pineapples so I immediately knew I had to incorporate them but I struggled at first with how to show an “echo” of the fruit. I decided to try to make prints from the pineapples. I used a blow torch to flambé the halved pineapples flesh to increase texture and initially the fruits own charring wasn’t leaving as much of an imprint on the paper so I decided to brush on powdered charcoal. After having taken a few dozen prints I combined a few of them into the central pineapple image used on the label and added the concentric charcoal flourishes to emulate the feeling of reverberation.
